3 Reasons we can’t wait for the 2018 Cashiers Designer Showhouse

Presented by the Cashiers Historical Society and sponsored by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles (look for the showhouse program in our August issue)the 2018 Cashiers Designer Showhouse officially opens for tours on July 28th! Here are three reasons this year’s showhouse is on our must-see list.

1. Escape to an idyllic haven

Situated on 42 sprawling acres overlooking Lake Glenville, the 2018 showhouse is abundant with inspiring views inside and out. Originally part of the Monteith Homestead, the grounds feature a variety of flora and fauna—including native Flame Azaleas, Trillium, Turk’s caps, Galax and Jack-in-the pulpit—as well as a series of paths that connect historic logging trails from the early 1900s. Inspired by the châteaux of southern France and northern Italy, the home itself evokes the feel of European countrysides with stained exterior walls, high ceilings, hidden doors and hand-cut inlaid marble floors with underfloor heating. cashiershistoricalsociety.org/showhouse

2. Shop Pop-Ups

Take home design inspiration! Throughout the run of showhouse, guests will have the opportunity to take advantage of pop-up shop experiences, including a Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts pop-up shopping event hosted by designer Katherine Ford, as well as an Oakleaf garden pop-up shop. Attendees are also invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine provided by the Highlands Wine Shoppe while shopping in the Vendor Village, featuring vendors such as Huff Harrington, Southern Baked Pie Company, Mollie Jenkins Pottery, Highlands Lawn & Garden and more. cashiershistoricalsociety.org/showhouse-vendors

3. Events & Workshops

Enjoy a series of lectures, book signings, and workshops throughout the week featuring notable artists and designers such as Danielle Rollins, Bradley Odom, Mallory Mathison Glenn and more. On August 5, don’t miss the Closing Croquet Brunch with honorary guest Mark D. Sikes. Guests are encouraged to wear their whites, and the event will include live jazz music, croquet games, an Oakleaf Garden Popup with Kirk Moore, putting lessons with Bobby Grace, live paintings by Diane McPhail, Katie Madden, Steve Mckenzie and Jana Young of Jana Ink and Paper. An expansive full-service bloody Mary bar will be brought to life by Cathead Vodka, Cordial & Craft and Sister’s Sauce, and attendees will also enjoy wine from Highlands Wine Shoppe, craft beer from New Realm Brewery, southern soul food prepared by Distinctive Design Events and specialty vendors. cashiershistoricalsociety.org/showhouse-schedule
