Southern Simplicity

The 2017 Luxury Living Show, presented by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles at Phipps Plaza, showcased the latest trends in kitchen, bath and outdoor

Sleek Sophistication

The 2017 Luxury Living Show’s kitchen, designed by Steven Gamper of Bell Kitchen & Bath Studios, balanced clean, contemporary elements, such as matte laminate flat-panel cabinets, with traditional finishes like white oak open shelving for a space that felt modern yet livable. “Atlanta’s market for clean and simple design is on the rise,” says Gamper, “though this simplicity does not always warrant the coldness of modern contemporary.”

Functional Flair

A soft-close, full-extension drawer system features walnut Rev-A-Shelf inserts—made with a thin-walled metal side to maximize the use of space—to allow for easy organization and storage of kitchen necessities. Gray, laminate-paneled cabinets not only serve an aesthetic purpose; they were also a practical touch because they don’t show fingerprints, says Gamper.

Minimalist Marvel

Wolf’s M Series built-in, handleless ovens—framed in white oak and suitable for even the most discerning chef—rest underneath three Wolf cooktops for a sleek yet functional cooking space. Meanwhile, durable Cambria countertops featuring an undercut edge stand up to any potential messes.

Feminine & Fresh

Courtney Foster Shearer of Bell Kitchen & Bath Studios imbued this bath with a mix of modern lines and traditional, more feminine elements, as seen in the curved MTI tub and vanity cabinets, which feature organizational shelving inside. “One trend we are seeing right now is bringing the same function and consideration used in kitchens into baths as well; no need to have jars of cotton balls crowding your vanity top when all can be stored neatly and beautifully inside the cabinetry,” says Shearer.

Pop of Pretty

Striking Neolith shower walls (“the beauty of marble without any of the upkeep,” says Shearer) add a sense of movement, while tall linen cabinets—painted Benjamin Moore’s Misty Blush and featuring antiqued mirror insets—infuse the bath with a whisper of romance. “The cabinet adds interest and femininity while still allowing the bath to come across as elegant and timeless,” she says.

Outdoor Oasis

When designing the outdoor kitchen, Dove Studio Kitchen & Bath kept entertaining in mind, incorporating durable elements, such as the Neolith countertops and NatureKast cabinetry, that would stand up to the outdoors. A sink workstation by The Galley features a six-piece accessory set that provides a place to prep, cook and clean. Meanwhile, a Hestan built-in grill, double-burner cooktop and refrigerator bring the luxury of an indoor kitchen to the outdoors.

Firmly Planted

A reclaimed all-weather teak table and chairs from Napa Home & Garden offer an inviting place to enjoy food or conversation, while a Hartstone paving grid, artificial turf and lush plantings soften the space. “Sustainable, low-maintenance landscapes with clean lines and less ornamentation are a main design trend that we are seeing,” says Lucinda Bray of Floralis Garden Design.

Modern Comfort

Tall barstools from World Market sidle up to a bar area, an ideal spot to sit and converse with a busy cook. “The thought was this would be the area where guests gather to socialize with the cook as well as eat and drink,” says Murdock. “We’re kitchen designers first, so we are able to take our skill set for kitchen designs and parlay that into the outdoor application—a lot of the same philosophies of good design are the same for any kitchen, whether it’s indoor or outdoor.”
