Marist School is reflecting on the profound impact and cherished memories left behind by Dr. Anne Washington Saunders, whose presence enriched our community for more than 20 years until her passing on March 29, 2024. Dr. Saunders' contributions to our school have left an enduring legacy of academic excellence, dedication to learning, and service to others. Her loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
This spring, 40 Marist School students in Dr. Michael Bieze’s Advanced Placement (AP) Art History class embarked on a journey to Japan, a destination rich in cultural heritage and artistic marvels. Dr. Bieze’s passion for immersive learning experiences has led countless Marist students on transformative journeys across the world for more than three decades. This year, Japan emerged as the canvas for their next adventure, marking a significant milestone with a larger cohort that reflects the enthusiasm among Marist students to explore art internationally.
Marist School recently played host to an enriching cultural and language exchange program organized by Modern & Classical Languages teacher Ms. Jessica Askins. Welcoming a group of 17 students and two teachers from a Marist sister school in Fürstenzell, Germany, the exchange spanned from March 18 to April 2, marking a vibrant intercultural journey for both the visitors and their Atlanta Marist counterparts.
Marist School recently hosted its annual Mass of Remembrance, a cherished tradition that pays homage to alumni who passed away in the preceding year. Held on Sunday, February 25, the event brought together alumni, family, and friends to commemorate the lives and influence of those who have enriched the Marist community. This year, Marist honored not only departed alumni but also two former beloved faculty members: theology teacher Mr. David Donahue and band director Mr. Mark Craddock.
On March 23, Marist School’s Booster Club transformed Young Gym in Centennial Center into a hub of fellowship and entertainment for its biennial Marist Madness celebration. Attendees were treated to an unforgettable evening of camaraderie while raising support for Marist’s 15 sports programs, training room, and weight room.
