Holding Pattern

“Buy well, buy once.” That’s Atlanta interior designer Kari Fisher’s philosophy when it comes to investing in pieces for your home that will not only stand up to trends but also last a lifetime. It’s also the mantra for her spin-off textile firm, Kari Fisher Designs, a byproduct of the young designer’s passion for pattern and fabric.

Inspired by the boldness of decorating doyenne Dorothy Draper and the handiwork of William Morris, an Arts and Crafts leader, Fisher’s hand-blocked designs—created in her Atlanta studio—are anything but average. Think large-scale Georgia O’Keefe-style rose hand-painted on a cotton canvas (“Dorothy Rose”), or hand-blocked whimsical fish (“Matsya”) and Eastern-influenced eye (“Shiva”) on 100 percent linen printed in the time-honored method of water-based fabric ink. Other bespoke touches include trim embellishments like color cording and pom-pom tassels or linen printed on both sides.
