Charging Ahead

Phipps Plaza is planning upgrades and new openings that mean the luxury shopping destination will emerge from the pandemic better than ever. The property received an upgraded façade along Peachtree, and the remainder of 2021 will see the openings of Alon’s Bakery & Market, Free People Movement, Balenciaga, Sugarcoat beauty store, an expansion for Valentino and a remodeled Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse. More changes are ahead as the shopping landmark heads into 2022, where Citizen’s Food Hall, a new green space and One Phipps Plaza—a Class A office tower—will begin a phased opening. Though scores of consumers turned to shopping online over the past 18 months, the Phipps management team feels bullish. “In-person retail will always be relevant because people crave connecting in real life and find joy in discovering the new and different,” says general manager Eric Howard. “‘Touch, feel, try and buy’ is the top reason why consumers continue to choose shopping in physical stores versus online.”
