Davenport Designs and Georgian Fine Properties fashions a resort-worthy bath with calming colors and dimensional details
When designing a new-build primary bath for a pair of newlyweds (and first-time homeowners), designer Lauren Davenport Imber set out to emulate the relaxing energy of a five-star hotel.
“The footprint of the primary bath is rather large, so we knew we needed to create warmth and coziness with the materials selected,” explains Davenport Imber, who worked with builder Stanton Jacobs to bring the clients’ dream bath to life. “The main goal for this space was to create function and beauty that felt like a romantic retreat.”
To create a sense of calm, Davenport Imber kept most of the bath’s materials light in color, opting for shades of white in the Carrara marble countertops and white marble backsplash. To complement the room’s lofty ceiling—which extends a whopping 15 feet high—the designer added a white plaster chandelier to draw the eye up without competing with the surrounding details.
Balancing the bath’s clean palette, quiet textures, such as the porcelain floor tile’s mosaic pattern, add easygoing depth to the space. “In designing a bathroom with neutral tones, it’s important to incorporate subtle textures within the material to add dimension,” notes Davenport Imber.
She added additional warmth and contrast by selecting an antique wood stain for the cabinetry, which was crafted by Keystone Millworks. Above the vanities, custom mirrors—made through Fred Reed Picture Framing, Inc.—match the cabinetry’s finish for a cohesive look.
“Stanton [Jacobs] allowed us to take the reins on all materials selected and executed our vision to a tee,” says Davenport Imber. “It is so important in any new construction or renovation project that the designer and builder have an open line of communication.”
