Why a Breezy Escape to Sunny Bermuda Should be Your Next Flight

At Azura Bermuda, discover the true beauty of the archipelago

I’ll be honest: I didn’t know quite what to expect from my first visit to Bermuda. I had imagined something flat and overbuilt, a place straining under the weight of its own reputation. What I hadn’t anticipated was how green it would be, or how completely unbothered it was by all the fuss. There are no skyscrapers jostling for attention, just rolling hills, pastel-painted cottages along country lanes, and stunning coastal views.

And then I arrived at Azura. Tucked into lush tropical flora, the resort feels immediately secluded and private. Its pristine, modern buildings are perched like a cluster of sugar cubes on a cliff above the Atlantic along Bermuda’s South Shore, with 60 rooms and suites, four pools, open-air bars, a restaurant, and a private wellness space all positioned to make the most of those extraordinary views. A new phase, scheduled to open in Spring of 2027, will add 24 more rooms and suites.

My oceanfront guest room was marshmallow-white with soft pastel touches—a deliberate contrast to the vivid blues beyond floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The corner wraparound glass offered panoramic views of sea and sky, and even with the sliding door just slightly ajar, the sound of waves meeting rock far below delivered a low, constant rhythm I could feel as much as hear.

The property rewards the curious. Guests gravitate to the private pink sand beach and the Ocean Pool, which fills naturally with Atlantic saltwater, and the bar alongside. The rooftop Sky Pool (climb the steps for your workout) rewards with 360-degree views of the ocean and Bermuda’s celebrated barrel reefs. The Palm Pool offers seclusion, while the Terrace Pool draws the social crowd.

Azura’s restaurant, Surf, sits at the water’s edge and serves a relaxed surf-and-turf menu with Mediterranean-island inflections. The prime filet mignon, the jumbo shrimp and scallops with potato pearls and lemongrass beurre blanc, and the charred octopus are all standouts. Before dinner, the bar adjacent to the Terrace Pool is the ideal place to sip a sundowner. Goslings rum swizzle, anyone?

Exploring the island is a genuine pleasure; nothing is more than about 30 minutes away. The three regions worth covering are Central Bermuda (the city of Hamilton), the East End (St. George), and the West End, anchored by the historic Royal Naval Dockyard—a hub for sightseeing, shopping, dining, and island experiences.

Wherever you are on-property, those views and the rhythmic sound of waves and seabirds follow you. It all adds up to something quietly rare: a place that feels both supremely sophisticated and deeply, unhurriedly calm. azurabermuda.com
