The 2025 Serenbe Designer Showhouse Embraces Modern Craftsman Design

Featuring Modern Craftsman architectural details, the 2025 Serenbe Designer Showhouse reflects intentional design, creative expression, and timeless elegance

Whimsical Function

Kitchen & Dining Area Cristi Rajevac, Rajevac Design Studio

Blending the home’s Craftsman exterior with Art Deco interior details, Cristi Rajevac of Rajevac Design Studio decorated the kitchen in a way that honors both. “When I first saw the house, my philosophy was to pay attention to the architecture and let that dictate what I was doing on the inside,” explains Rajevac. The kitchen’s millwork and beams create a warm foundation, while details such as the reeded range cove, brassy hardware, and African Mont Blanc dolomite countertops in quartzite—all specified by Mister + Mrs Sharp—connect the kitchen and dining area together. From there, Rajevac wove together traditional elements, like patterned pillows nodding to Craftsman squares, with modern pieces that felt right for the space. The dining table is the room’s centerpiece with its reflective surface that shimmers in the room’s abundant natural light, creating an unexpected elegance. Indoor-outdoor slipcovered dining chairs and removable bench pillows ensure the space works for real life. “My goal is always to make the functional pieces as elegant as possible, which is why the stools are upholstered in vinyl that can be easily cleaned,” adds Rajevac. The result is a family-friendly kitchen that doesn’t sacrifice style for practicality.

Utilitarian Beauty

Laundry Room & Pantry Alexander Woodcock, Amulet Atelier

Alexander Woodcock of Amulet Atelier elevated the laundry room and pantry into spaces where function meets refinement. “My goal was to design a room that felt elevated yet approachable; a place where everyday tasks could unfold in an environment people would admire and connect with,” explains Woodcock. The design began with Dawne Raulet’s moody goose artwork, whose dark tones echoed the black marble from the primary bathroom and created visual continuity throughout the home. A crackled wallcovering reminiscent of delicate eggshells added interest. “By layering texture, pattern, and mood, this room proves that beauty and utility can coexist effortlessly,” says Woodcock. In the absence of crown molding, black raffia tape trim frames the walls, and custom, tailored drapery conceals the washer and dryer. Labeled jars and thoughtful storage solutions like baskets complete the space. Says Woodcock, “With thought and intention, even the most functional spaces can become a sanctuary.”

Clean Curves

Living Room Lorraine Enwright, Intuitive Dwellings

The orientation of the living room presented Lorraine Enwright of Intuitive Dwellings with an opportunity to design around a singular focal point: the home’s golden limestone fireplace. She wanted to center the room without overcrowding it, so rather than traditional sofas and chairs, she selected a welcoming curved sofa paired with a brass-textured table. From there, the design came together quickly and organically. Sheer metallic drapery panels hung between each window are the room’s most remarked-upon feature. “We had so many people contact us saying the draperies were just exquisite,” says Enwright. The iridescent fabric allowed natural light to filter through while adding an elegant shimmer to the gallery wall of mixed-media artwork. Early coordination with adjacent room designer Cristi Rajevac created an unexpected harmony—both gravitated toward gold and green palettes independently. The collaboration exemplifies what Enwright values most about showhouses: “You’re coming together with a lot of talented people, and everybody is there to make it beautiful and special.”

Sophisticated Saturation

Library Bebe Mengitsu, Bebe M Design Studio

Bebe Mengistu of Bebe M Design Studio transformed the library and guest room into a playful yet curated multipurpose retreat. “This room was particularly inspiring because it challenged me to think creatively about function and flexibility,” explains Mengistu. She envisioned a space that could transition seamlessly between uses without compromising style or atmosphere. The design began with a Harlem Toile pillow depicting storytelling scenes of family and friends. “I was drawn to the way it combined rich colors, culture, and history,” says Mengistu. From there, she blended old-world charm with modern sensibility, sourcing unique pieces from Atlanta antiques stores and mixing traditional and contemporary elements. The showstopping 19th-century Georgian mahogany secretary, for example, was found at one of over 15 antiques shops Mengistu visited during showhouse preparations. “I didn’t set out with anything specific in mind, but the moment I spotted this piece, I was completely smitten. The scale, the warmth of the wood, everything about it was just right for the collected, character-filled bar I envisioned,” she says. On the opposite wall, the custom walnut-wrapped upholstered daybed from Bradley balances comfort with sophistication. Her original artwork series, Color Dialogues, adds a personal layer. “The pieces were inspired by the paint samples I explored throughout the design process, moments where color became both inspiration and conversation,” she explains. The custom tones echo the room’s vibrant palette, reinforcing what Mengistu calls a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic.

Executive Suite

Office Buffy Ferguson, Elizabeth Ferguson Design Studio

Positioned as the first room on the right upon entering the home, Buffy Ferguson designed an office that makes an immediate impression with its polished aesthetic. “The office allowed us to layer rich, masculine, and timeless pieces that truly exemplify our style,” says Ferguson. The design began with a single choice: the paint color Vintage Leather by Sherwin-Williams. Then, rather than centering the design around one showpiece, she focused on cohesion. “The mix of modern and classic feels true to who we are,” explains Ferguson. The room comes together around the desk. “It had the weight and presence we wanted, but still felt refined.” A curved arm bench contrasts the clean lines of the windows and workspace, while a corner chair and a chinoiserie screen, both accentuated with black, bring depth to the room. The approach reflects her design philosophy of blending eras and styles into a refined whole. For Ferguson, the showhouse format offered creative liberation. “Showhouses like this give us the freedom to design for our ideal client—someone who appreciates quality, craftsmanship, and a story behind every detail. It’s an opportunity to create without compromise, and that’s always inspiring,” she notes. The workspace feels both substantial and inviting while setting a sophisticated tone for the rest of the home.

Intentional Ease

Primary Bedroom & Bathroom Yvonne McFadden, Y. McFadden LLC

After seeing the primary bedroom and bathroom, Yvonne McFadden gravitated toward a palette of deep browns and burnt umber, building coziness through collected pieces in rich tones. “I wanted to create an inviting space—one that would embrace all who entered with warmth and comfort. A perfect spot to unwind with a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine,” describes McFadden. The custom bed is, without a doubt, the room’s centerpiece. “I purchased the leather strapping from one of our favorite antiques dealers years ago, holding onto it for a special project,” she recalls. She paired the textural vintage leather with a simple, modern white oak frame, creating contrast that allows each element to shine. The English antique pigeonhole cubby bookshelf allowed McFadden artistic storage flexibility. Flipping the books so pages are exposed reveals layers of aged paper in a patchwork pattern. “I wanted it to look as though the art and accessories were collected over a period of time, creating an unexpected grouping of art and sculpture,” she says. In the primary bathroom, McFadden presents a tailored, modern-style bath dripping in texture. To complement the high-contrast, honed marble floors, and the zellige tile—specified by Mister + Mrs Sharp—McFadden added neutral-toned accessories and a lucite table for a layer of visual interest. A Deco rug ties the palette of the primary spaces together to finish the suite.

Creative Compositions

Loft, Stair Hall, & Hallway Ashley Potts and Emi Mason, Potts Mason Interiors

Ashley Potts and Emi Mason of Potts Mason Interiors transformed the loft into a communal gathering space. “Because the house overall isn’t huge, we saw it as the perfect opportunity to create a more communal living area—a place to gather, relax, and play games together,” explains Potts. The design began with Cowtan & Tout fabric paired with chartreuse accents. “Chartreuse felt like the perfect pairing, especially for a home in Serenbe that is surrounded by so much natural greenery,” says Mason. An oversize antiqued mirror, born from necessity, is the room’s pièce de résistance. “There was an off-center door to access the attic on the back wall, which was inhibiting. We designed the mirror to create a striking focal point that maintained the symmetry we wanted, but also to serve a purpose in covering the door,” describes Mason. The duo’s hands-on approach extended beyond furniture selection; they designed and created hand-stained beads on pillow trim, and printed custom playing cards to match the room. Says Potts, “We can’t say we get this crafty on all of our projects, but showhouses are the perfect place to have a little fun.”

Serenity Speaks

Bedroom & Bathroom Leslie Wolfe and Brittany Harris, Benton Parker Design

When Leslie Wolfe and Brittany Harris of Benton Parker Design began dreaming up their bedroom design, they started with the pink-and-berry floral bathroom wallpaper. “Inspired by the red exterior window frames, we aimed to incorporate a similar berry tone as an accent throughout the interior,” recalls Wolfe. In the bedroom, textured stripe wallpaper added depth while maintaining softness. To create cohesion, Wolfe painted the ceiling and trim in a dusty blue shade that matched the fine stripe within the wallpaper, drawing out color from the design element. The rug is also a quiet essential for the space. “It was so soft and understated, yet it complemented the fabric and wallpaper perfectly,” she says. Artwork and linens bridged the two rooms, tying the bathroom’s color scheme into the bedroom for a unified feel. The harmonious guest suite feels both vibrant and restful.

Final Draft

Bedroom & Bathroom Jillian Rooker and Amanda Dashwood, Rook and Dash

Jillian Rooker and Amanda Dashwood of Rook and Dash designed a guest bedroom and bath with understated, midcentury modern sophistication. “We began with the bed, aiming for a very minimal aesthetic using a simple bedcover made from European flax. From there, we wanted everything else to complement it with the same simplicity and high-quality materials,” explains Rooker. The room exudes restraint. “We wanted to create a simple, refined space that focused on quality and timelessness rather than ostentation,” asserts Dashwood. A vintage Swedish modern teak cabinet circa 1955 became a standout element, embodying their philosophy of blending eras. “It was important to us to incorporate a few vintage pieces to add history and character,” adds Rooker. Texture plays a subtle but critical role throughout the space too. For example, rather than relying solely on painted walls, the duo added tambour wall panels coated in the room’s deep green paint to introduce dimension without disrupting the room’s minimalism. The adjoining bathroom continues the room’s personality. Playful textiles, a vintage rug, and original art by Hannah Hanlon are grounded by an earthy palette.

Warm Welcome

Foyer, Bathroom, & Interior Specifications Patrick and Meghan Sharp, Mister + Mrs. Sharp

Transitional design brings together the best of classic and modern styles, offering a gracious yet polished first impression that never goes out of style. Patrick and Meghan Sharp of Mister + Mrs Sharp approached their foyer design, as well as their chosen spec finishes, with that in mind. “Our first piece was the beautiful modern art from Laura Deems in the foyer, which paired nicely with the antique French landscape oil paintings,” says Patrick, exemplifying the very essence of transitional decor from the jump. The duo chose a chest to further emphasize a welcoming entry befitting a modern Craftsman such as this one. The console provides necessary storage while anchoring the space. The bathroom sits just off the foyer, serving as both a powder and guest bath for one of the adjoining rooms. Says Patrick, “We were challenged to make the space feel special, even formal, as a powder room, while still being able to fully service guests as a full bath. The black marble tile and walls brought the drama we needed.”

Cozy Connections

Front Porch Dorothy McGhee, McGhee Studios

Inspired by the home’s textural shingles, exposed wood, and stacked stone, Dorothy McGhee of McGhee Studios set out to design a front porch that felt as warm as its natural materials. “My vision was to create a space that feels both grounded and elevated—an outdoor living room that celebrates comfort, texture, and connection,” describes McGhee. Starting with neutral foundational pieces, McGhee layered organic materials, rich finishes, and sculptural elements to evoke a calm setting. “It sets the tone for what’s inside: a refined, sophisticated, and welcoming environment,” says McGhee. Notably, she chose to display historic artwork outdoors. “The art blurs the line between indoors and out, reinforcing the idea that art and design should be lived with, not just looked at. It gives the porch soul and creates a sense of discovery for guests.” The area becomes a place for intimate conversations with neighbors and friends.

California Dreaming

Design-Build Serenbe Planning + Design, South Haven Builders, Land Plus, Mister + Mrs Sharp

Architectural designer Steve Dray drew inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement to design the 2025 Serenbe Showhouse. “I’ve always been a fan of those early-1900s bungalows out in California,” recalls Dray. Built by South Haven Builders, the home—petite yet functional—fits within Serenbe’s evolving streetscape strategy of mixing architectural styles from the turn of the century through the 1930s. Materials like river rock give the exterior a distinctive character, while open-concept living informed the layout, natural light flooding through generous windows in the kitchen, hallways, and stairwell landing. It was the front porch, however, that became Dray’s favorite detail, with Serenbe’s setting impacting the design. “The relationship to the landscape is really important for a house like this,” he says of lush surroundings by Land Plus. As that landscaping matures, the architecture will deepen its connection to nature.
