Envisioning an elegant, uncluttered backdrop for entertaining, interior designer Claudia Stimmel eliminated upper cabinetry in the open kitchen and lacquered lower cabinets—designed by Bell Cabinetry through Construction Resources—in a mossy shade of green punctuated by polished brass hardware. “It’s a warm green like you might see outside,” says Stimmel. Veiny quartzite countertops with an integrated full-height backsplash in a complementary hue accent the cabinetry, creating a breathtaking backdrop for a fluted brass range hood with a distinctive bell shape. A walnut island with a soapstone countertop adds a pleasing contrast. “I wanted it to feel moodier and sexier than the typical kitchen,” she says. A wallcovering with a striped motif and patterned draperies foster a more informal feeling in the unique U-shaped scullery, which is cleverly concealed behind a secret door. The palette also informs the breakfast area, where a brass chandelier with a fringe-like detail seems to float over a traditional wooden table and two matching settees covered in a coordinating striped fabric. Says Stimmel, “This home lends itself to family living, but it’s also an elegant spot to host parties and galas.” —Tate Gunnerson

The expansive, uninterrupted walls in the foyer and primary vestibule inspired interior designer Anna Booth to transform them into gallery-like spaces filled with artwork and handmade items. Selected to complement the bluestone and limestone checkerboard flooring, for example, an antique tapestry hangs over an 18th-century console staged with handcrafted bowls and other objets d’art in the front entry. To coordinate with the palette in the primary bedroom suite, a series of abstract paintings in a predominantly blue hue likewise adds a sense of soul to the bedroom’s vestibule, which Booth furnished simply with an antique chest underneath a tall mirror. “May the space that holds you as you walk to your bedroom be unhurried and at rest,” says Booth, noting the artwork invites reflection and contemplation. “The humble nature of handmade items inherently makes these spaces feel authentic, honest, and incredibly unique.” —Tate Gunnerson

When designer Helen Hanavich first saw B. Bridges’ fabric, exclusive to Bungalow Classic, she immediately knew she wanted to cocoon the dining room in it. “It’s not a huge print, so if we didn’t go big or go home with it, it wouldn’t have a big impact,” says Hanavich. “I wanted to put it everywhere: the curtains, ceiling, walls, banquette, and pedestal.” With her plan laid out and expecting a flat ceiling with crown molding, the designer was surprised to discover a curved, tray ceiling upon her first walk-through. Unsure if upholstering the room would even be possible, the team was ready to try. The radius corners and curves truly put the installation team to the test, but after two weeks of upholstering the ceiling and walls on towering scaffolding, the impossible became possible. “It was definitely a pivot and unexpected, but the room ended up being so much better for it,” says Hanavich. In collaboration with honorary showhouse chairs Randy and Courtney Tilinski of Bungalow Classic, the room feels effortlessly cozy and timeless. To avoid the stiffness of an often typical formal dining room, Hanavich lined a wall with an expansive banquette perfectly suited for after-dinner cocktails and chats. The designer credits the room’s success to the Tilinskis. “They absolutely gave me carte blanche and let me spread my wings and use any pieces from their store,” says Hanavich. “There was not a single stressful moment with them.” —Kate Strickland

In an era when many are eliminating formal living rooms that feel precious and underused, Kim Mauney challenged herself to a modern take that is elegant and polished, yet relaxed enough for daily life. No stranger to blending concepts, the North Carolina-by-way-of-California designer is known for cleverly bridging West Coast style and Southern traditions. A curved sofa covered in green-and-gold floral fabric—echoing the kitchen’s colors—served as a jumping-off point. Matching chairs encourage socializing, while an antique brass coffee table and vintage lighting provide a dose of patina. Flanking the fireplace are built-in bookshelves with stone-front shelving for a luxe touch. The pièce de résistance hangs above the mantel: a contemporary portrait by Trine Søndergaard through Jackson Fine Art with help from consultant Kate Bellin. “There’s a nod to the traditional,” describes Mauney, “but she is facing away from the camera and wearing a tank top.” The work subtly embodied the room’s ethos: a shifting perception of what a living space can be. —Colleen McNally Arnett

There’s more than one way to make a space feel layered and inviting. When designing the family room, Madison, Georgia-based designer Jimmy Stanton of Stanton Home Furnishings decided to bring elements of home along with him. “Every piece was sourced directly from our showroom in Madison,” says Stanton. “It is a true reflection of Stanton Home Furnishings and the work we do every day.” The designer created his own updated version of a traditional English country design. A defining feature of the room, a wall of bookcases abounding with well-loved books and antique accessories, adds a sense of history to the space. Flanking the fireplace, dark green leather chairs—favorites of the designer—reward those with an observant eye. At the end of each chair arm exists an antique brass dachshund head finial perfectly poised to infuse unexpected personality and charm into the room. A greyhound sculpture sits sentry nearby, positioned as if ready to curl up by one’s feet at a moment’s notice. Floor-to-ceiling windows spotlight the space and call attention to antiques, tailored upholstery, and subtle pops of color throughout. Effortlessly cozy and familiar, the family room is prime for midday gatherings, intimate late-night chats, and everything in between. —Kate Strickland

A quiet introduction to the side of the home, striped wallpaper and woven shades greet guests with a sense of warmth and whimsy in the vestibule designed by Chris Holt of Holt Interiors. Potted orchids and ferns line the windows easing the transition between outdoors and indoors. Just beyond, the study beckons with a cozy livability. “I wanted to create spaces that feel timeless, layered, and inviting—rooms that tell a story rather than follow a trend,” says Holt. The designer chose a rich chocolate brown for the walls that effectively contrasts with various wall decor and art pieces including a favorite of Holt’s, the Arc De Triumphe by photographer Guy Sargent. Designed to feel intimate and enveloping, a mix of styles and textures keeps the room feeling fresh rather than formal. All eyes gravitate toward the perfectly poised fireplace mantel with delicate carving. Says Holt, “I love the tension that comes from mixing antiques and traditional forms with modern art and clean-lined furnishings. It gives a room character and makes it feel collected over time.” —Kate Strickland

It all started with the wallpaper, says Atlanta-based interior designer Lauren Lowe of designing the primary bedroom. The striped floral pattern felt traditional in style and added a layer of delight to the 12-foot walls. From a pair of 19th-century Italian commodes to the custom canopy bed with wool exterior panels and interior stripes, each piece imbues a sense of personality and history into the bedroom. “I designed this space with myself and longtime clients in mind: someone with a refined, traditional eye who appreciates a dynamic art collection, fine antiques, and modern touches,” says Lowe. “Of course, I hope they love music as much as I do and have a fabulous vinyl collection that can be enjoyed in the respite of the bedroom device-free.” The space has a distinct style and rhythm to it, often referred to as the Purple Rain Suite by the designer and her studio. Especially apt visitors will notice the 1940s purple Murano glass chandelier above as well as a few quiet purple details throughout—often including the color of flower that the designer chooses to display. Nearby, a 19th-century English open armchair sourced from a Cotswolds estate and a vintage George Smith Edwardian are outfitted in matching floral fabric and flank the fireplace. Lowe so loved the pair that she found a place for them in her own home following the completion of the showhouse. —Kate Strickland

A ribbon of complementary blues establishes a pleasing sense of continuity in the elegant primary bathroom and closets by interior designers Claudia Stimmel, who selected hard surfaces, and Meredith McKenzie, who decorated the spaces. Calacatta Gold marble flooring creates a timeless vibe in the spa-like bathroom, which features a spacious shower with a large arched threshold, a sculptural soaking tub, and custom vanities by Bell Cabinetry through Construction Resources. Built into niches flanking the entrance, the walnut cabinetry has been paired with brass hardware and stone countertops with a fluted skirt and integrated backsplash. To soften the architecture, McKenzie covered an entire wall with draperies and a traditional blue valance, both embroidered with delicate branches and budding leaves that “brings in a gentle wash of color to help balance the harder surfaces,” explains McKenzie, pointing to the velvet-upholstered bench. “Overall, the goal was to create a space that feels calm and layered.” A painterly blue wallcovering and complementary area rug likewise balance the rich walnut cabinetry in a handsomely appointed men’s closet that feels “gentlemanly, collected, and functional,” says the designer, describing the space as a study in craftsmanship that defies fleeting trends. And a soft pink paint enlivens the shelving in a more feminine closet that McKenzie compares to a boutique. Indeed, a ceiling covered in a rattan grasscloth wallcovering that fosters a cozy milieu, the space includes built-in cabinetry and a custom chaise covered in soft green fabric. “The layers make the spaces pretty,” says McKenzie. “The result feels like a sumptuous, spa-like retreat.” —Tate Gunnerson

Inspired by the idea that transitional spaces deserve to be crafted with just as much intention as the rooms most focused on, designer Renee Chiarelli of The Design Editors ensured each of her spaces was not simply a pass-through but an experience of its own. The main-level hallway complements architectural details through its modern sensibilities and clean lines. An entry table adorned with books and treasures invites guests to look, linger, and even take a seat on one of the plush, pink stools. “My goal was to create something that feels refined and emotionally resonant—a space that invites pause, not just passage,” says Chiarelli. Memorable art pieces from local galleries dot the walls of each area and add a striking element. A notable pair, artist Heather Lancaster’s black swan art pieces set the artistic tone. In the lower-level powder room, vibrant-hued abstract wallpaper exudes cheer and ties in the yellow floating vanity, leaving visitors with a brighter smile than when they first walked in. “I think when you have the opportunity to do something bold, even within a classically inspired home, you should embrace it,” says Chiarelli. “Those moments of contrast are often what give a home its personality.” —Kate Strickland

With a long, wide hallway as her blank canvas, Atlanta-based designer Sarah Knochel knew how to make it approachable and warm without becoming overcrowded. “We wanted our space to flow nicely with the old-world finishes and timeless feel of the house,” says Knochel, noting she found inspiration in choices by the showhouse’s specification designer Claudia Stimmel. Smart striped wallpaper, slim consoles, a custom 45-foot runner, and sculptural birds soaring overhead did the trick. Meanwhile, the spacious laundry allowed room to play. An abstract landscape mural by Charlotte Terrell papers the walls, and a raku-fired ceramic bust of a crying girl—Knochel’s favorite accent—adds a sense of whimsy above the appliances. “We called her ‘Crybaby’ because we hate doing our laundry,” she jokes. Mixed metals, from champagne-hued hardware on the cabinets to polished nickel plumbing, made for a fun contrast and custom look. “I love that it didn’t feel so matchy-match.” —Colleen McNally Arnett

North Carolina-based designer Layton Campbell of J Layton Interiors took the showhouse as an opportunity to have fun without client constraints. The designer strayed from the quiet moody palette he is known for and crafted a joyous jewel box of design. “I wanted to lean into something a little traditional but with a Deco flair as well, which is my favorite period,” says Campbell. “I think that the house lends itself to a traditional style, but I also wanted a bit of myself in there.” The designer envisioned an expansive banquette where the tenant could rest, pop a bottle of champagne with friends, or quietly read a book. To make the most of the space without feeling predictable, Campbell and his team added plenty of wow moments including the vanity “placed at the foot of the bed, instead of a bench or something that is more expected.” Though the greatest surprise of all and what the designer called a happy accident revealed itself when the custom, curved bed was placed in the space, its keyhole cutout perfectly framing two of the wallpaper’s birds. In collaboration with artisan Joe Comire, the bed’s soft curves embrace the feminine qualities of the room and set the tone while the vibrant wallpaper was the springboard for the design. Incorporating the colors of the wall, the hand-knotted rug is “art on the floor,” says the designer. The bathroom’s palette was created by taking the colors from the bedroom and muting them just a hair. “The marble and vanity were predetermined, and I was so relieved that the vanity color was not something like a brown,” says Campbell. “The way everything worked out all felt kismet.” —Kate Strickland

Already committed to designing the junior primary bedroom and bathroom, designer Betsy McBride Sehgal was in Paris when she heard that Little Greene Paint & Paper would be sponsoring the showhouse. “I popped into their showroom and got some samples from them in person,” says McBride Sehgal. “I fell in love with the Nether Red color and decided right away to use it.” Designing the bedroom around the rich color, she approached the room as a quiet respite for a long-term houseguest. Prioritizing a sense of calm, the designer paired neutral whites and creams to complement the room’s vibrance. A circular encaustic painting of clouds holds court over the bed and brings a dreamy zen to the space. Interesting silhouettes and sculptural elements—such as the carved credenza and half-moon bench—add an artistic touch. “The other pop of fun is the vestibule wallpaper that perfectly accented the wallcolor and created a bridge into the bathroom with the green tile,” says McBride Sehgal of the custom, hand-painted wallpaper panels. Curved marble backsplash in the bathroom stretches the length of the room, and a freestanding tub is nestled between two light blue, stone-topped vanities. Continuing the bedroom’s colorful thread, the bathroom is replete with art, sure to inspire any guest who occupies it. —Kate Strickland

The more color the merrier for Kentucky-based designer Isabel Ladd. “I don’t really worry if it’s all going to go together. It just finds a way.” Indeed, this rumpus room is a psychedelic patchwork of patterns—Ladd even covered the walls with an abstract cotton print inspired by the coral reef of the Maldives. “It was just me with a staple gun and a deadline,” she jokes of the installation. The wallcovering, along with plush rug and soft seating, made the room feel more intimate despite the vast ceilings. Nods to tropical-chic style continue with a shell mirror, rattan furniture, sculptural palms, and the bright lime green ceiling. And, if the maximalist scheme wasn’t entertaining enough, a game table is primed for mah-jongg marathons, and a retro boom box encourages impromptu dance parties and deep belly laughs. The timeless warmth and sophisticated character of European homes, layered over generations with heirlooms, informed Atlanta-based designer Marianna Lane’s approach to this en suite. Early on, she selected an electric patterned fabric for the custom oversize headboard, becoming an avant-garde focal point and setting the tone for everything to follow. “I love how it anchors the room and immediately draws your eye without being overwhelming,” she says of the rich pattern. Planning a bedroom that is both richly layered and restful is challenging, yet Lane succeeded thanks to careful editing and a curated palette of earth tones and natural materials. Sculptural lamps and the statement ceiling silk chandelier juxtapose softness and drama, while a seating vignette by the window offers a cozy spot to daydream. The mood continues into the bathroom, where a dusty rose vanity, antique pewter sconces, and even artwork in the marble shower harken to a bohemian spirit. —Colleen McNally Arnett

Showhouses offer the rare opportunity to try new things and design for yourself rather than a client. In this case, Atlanta-based designer Bowdre Longo crafted a bedroom and bathroom with her daughter in mind. “I didn’t want to do anything too serious,” says Longo. “I wanted to have a little fun and that made me think of my 13-year-old daughter.” When dreaming up an elevated teen room, the designer considered the time of transition: wanting independence, while still needing comfort and a sense of home. Staying away from trendy design elements, a custom upholstered canopy bed is equal parts sophisticated and playful. Nearby, a leopard-print sofa and gallery wall—curated with the help of art collector Gillian Bryce—calls to the daughter’s love of art and creates a stylish moment for lounging. Drenched in a rosy pink, the bedroom complements the bathroom’s hues of blue. “I found this Galbraith & Paul wallpaper that I just fell in love with, and it matched perfectly with the tile,” says Longo. “That was the catalyst for all the different colors that I pulled together.” With the perfectly contrasted palette, the result is a grounded room that doesn’t feel too sweet, but instead mature and lasting. —Kate Strickland

Designer Alexandre Fleuren’s Formula 1-inspired game room and bar tackles a common quandary: a husband who wants a man cave and a wife who does not want the eyesore that comes with it. “I imagined a guy who was really into Formula 1 racing, but his wife loves French Provincial design and traditional interiors,” says Fleuren. “So I designed something that would be palatable for her to spend some time there but was still clearly defined as his space.” Replete with reds, blues, and yellows, the bold color scheme incorporates team colors while maintaining an underlying tone of softness that the home requires. A custom shuffleboard designed with Milieu is outfitted in a Ferrari-yellow playing field, while leather accents—all from the same company used by Ferrari—further enhances the edge. A full bar by Bell Cabinetry through Construction Resources and wine cellar ensure the space is always watch-party ready. Enthusiasts will notice a plethora of Formula 1 nods throughout, including a one-of-a-kind Monza track steel-and-stone cocktail table, bust of famous driver Ayrton Senna, and a four-panel outdoor wall mural on the nearby patio, showing a sepia-washed mural of Tuscany with cars racing through the countryside. And as is true of both Formula 1 and showhouses, the pace is quick and it’s always a race to the finish. —Kate Strickland

With a special affinity for country club aesthetics, Gabrielle Picard Mosher of Gabrielle Picard Designs drew inspiration from Ralph Lauren’s The Polo Bar for an elevated golf simulator. “I really wanted to home in on a warm, masculine country club feel while making sure it wasn’t too stuffy or heavy,” says Mosher of finding the perfect balance. Her original concept included a brown leather sofa, but in a twist of fate, the vendor sold the piece. Forced to pivot, the designer sourced an unexpected teal velvet sofa. After applying a trim, it became her favorite piece in the space. “What would have been a super masculine space ended up being a little bit cozier and perhaps more feminine with the jewel tone color,” says Mosher. To enhance the depth created by the layers of wool, velvet, and leather, the designer applied plaid to the sides and ceiling protection. Another dash of destiny, Mosher reveled in the opportunity to collaborate with her “golf guru” husband Patrick Mosher of Southern Simulator, LLC. Says the designer, “Being able to team up on this one was really special because we got to collaborate and do exactly what we wanted, how we wanted, and to showcase both of our talents in a new light.” —Kate Strickland

“I wanted this space to have a masculine, retreat-like ambience, like a spa resort in a place like Aspen,” says interior designer Claudia Stimmel about the showhouse’s lower-level wellness area, which includes a wet zone with stone-like porcelain tile flooring and a sumptuous seating area with knotty French oak flooring. In the wet area, a black and white wallcovering with an Aspen tree motif creates a beautiful backdrop for a wall of custom dark-painted cabinetry by Bell Cabinetry through Construction Resources, a matching double vanity with a porcelain countertop, and a black cold plunge pool with modern lines. In a distinct adjacent space with light walls that was originally intended as a dedicated massage room, the designer instead created a lavish sitting area anchored by a contemporary sofa settee alongside a more rustic wooden table with an intricate carved base. Steps away, the gym by Annie Epstein of Modern Gym Design is both moody and motivating. “The wellness suite is a cozy, tucked-away space that invites relaxation, a place to unplug, recharge, and connect with nature,” says Stimmel. —Tate Gunnerson

Timing is everything, and that was certainly true for UpCountry Home’s creative director Frederick Morelli. The same day he found out he would be participating in this showhouse, he was leaving for a two-week buying trip in Istanbul and Paris. “A lot of the early planning I did and inspiration I had, I picked up from the hotels we were staying at,” he shares. “The idea of ‘retreat’ is what I kept going to.” Unlike typical hotel rooms, however, this guest suite had a towering, 16-foot ceiling. He took the opportunity to have a hand-painted mural that climbs up the stairwell installed and an 11-foot freestanding canopy bed fabricated on-site by a local welder, creating a peaceful sanctuary that no visitor would want to leave. To achieve an effortless but elevated look, Morelli designed cross supports that tuck underneath the bed, no vertical posts and no ceiling mounts, and curtain panels that drape on the floor like a couture gown. “I wanted it to feel like it was floating in the room.” Meanwhile, outfitting the remainder of the suite, including the bathroom, dining nook, and stairwell, was a tall order within itself. “Making it all cohesive was the biggest challenge,” he said. Luckily, he had access to the crème de la crème of the UpCountry Home showroom, including rugs he had purchased previously from Turkey. “They all happened to work out perfectly in that space, so it was a meant-to-be situation.” That globe-trotting sensibility is carried throughout with antique French doors on wardrobes, Italian case goods, and eclectic art layered throughout the space, offering just enough personality while remaining comfortable enough for travelers of any age. “I didn’t design this space with any one particular person in mind—and that was very much on purpose,” says Morelli. “Whether it’s an au pair, a nephew staying for the summer, the in-laws, or friends in town for a concert, I wanted whoever walked through that door to feel like the space was meant for them.” —Colleen McNally Arnett

For Atlanta-based designer Dorothy McGhee, this showhouse is about taking bold risks. Case in point: the framed portrait by local painter Angelina Marian that graces the entry. “The piece represents a quiet strength and inner power, while introducing a sense of whimsy and playfulness through its color and expression,” says McGhee. “It became an anchor moment within the space, tying together many of the colors and materials used throughout the design.” The resulting scheme for the entry, adjacent mudroom, and powder bath is immersive, transportive, and cohesive—even down to subtle details. The striking contrast of rich aubergine and soft blue in the powder room creates a playful tension akin to Marian’s abstract artwork, while the filigree chair rail in the hallway mimics the door pull of the mudroom cabinetry. Mixing a curated combination of ornamental hardware on the cabinets, all in unlacquered brass to age with natural patina, created an unexpected showstopper. “In a room that’s inherently functional, there’s still room for beauty. Hardware is often treated as an afterthought, but here it became the jewelry and truly the focus.” —Colleen McNally Arnett

Recognizing their growing importance, Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath Studio set out to create an outdoor kitchen as functional and elevated as the most well-designed indoor kitchens. Leaning into their penchant for mixing metals, the team incorporated custom hammered steel cabinetry with brass border accents, while the island is finished in a powder-coated brass. “I think of mixed metals as a neutral,” says designer Matthew Quinn. Naturally concealing dirt, grime, and fingerprints, the textural hammered steel softens the metallic finish while adding a bespoke, handcrafted quality. Illuminated by black metal lanterns, the countertops soften the cabinetry’s sharp, gleaming edges. The resulting space is at once beautiful and functional, refined and relaxed. “Our team selected extremely durable materials that can easily be hosed down, but the materials and finishes are so elevated that eating dinner there feels almost like being indoors,” says Quinn. “We designed this to be the epicenter of entertainment.” —Tate Gunnerson

In partnership with McKinnon and Harris, the outdoor furniture company’s new Bastille collection served as the foundation for the loggia by interior designer Suzanne Kasler, which links the outdoor kitchen to the poolside seating areas. “It’s always special to design a room for a showhouse,” says Kasler. “It really is a chance as a designer to express your point of view and define your signature style.” A subtle nod to the home’s exterior palette, a pair of bronze club chairs upholstered in crisp white fabric flank a foyer table skirted in pink silk, creating an inviting spot to relax with a drink beside the sculptural French modern fireplace. “With the limestone floor, it creates a beautiful backdrop,” says Kasler. Casually tailored drapery panels frame the segmented arches, fostering a sense of enclosure and privacy without diminishing the fresh air or connection to the landscape. Says Kasler, “This space is designed for living seamlessly between indoors and outdoors.” —Tate Gunnerson

Inspired by the asymmetrical, gently meandering compositions of historic English manor houses, architect Linda MacArthur looked across the Atlantic when envisioning the 2026 Southeastern Designer Showhouse. Built by Hask Custom Homes, the result is clad with white-painted brick accented by limestone, with bronze windows and a charcoal slate roof. While rooted in traditional architecture, the nearly 13,000-square-foot home embraces a more restrained interpretation of the style, with minimal ornamentation. “This house has a European twist,” says MacArthur. Curved plaster walls, subtle arches, and limestone fireplaces define the interior, where designer Claudia Stimmel introduced a palette of raw, knotty French oak flooring, natural stone surfaces, and richly textured finishes. Colorful patterned wallcoverings and sumptuous fabrics such as mohair and velvet soften the architecture while enhancing the moody atmosphere Stimmel envisioned. “The juxtaposition of refined materials against raw, natural elements feels timeless and classic,” she says. “We wanted this house to feel like it’s been here forever.” Designed to adapt to a family’s changing needs over time, the six-bedroom home includes a mix of public and private spaces, including a spacious great room, an upstairs lounge designed for adults, and an upper-level guest suite complete with a private stairway. On the lower level, a gym, infrared sauna, steam room, and cold plunge emphasizes form and function. The exterior is equally well considered with a variety of distinct zones, including a covered outdoor kitchen, a poolside conversation area with a firepit, and an illuminated pea-gravel entertaining area with a putting green by Floralis Landscape Architect. “Everything has been elevated to a 10,” says Adam James, vice president and partner of Hask Custom Homes. “We didn’t skimp on a single detail.” —Tate Gunnerson
