All February Join the Museum of Design Atlanta for their latest interactive exhibit,Sustainable Shelter: Dwelling Within the Forces of Nature. Focused on making our dwellings more sustainable by learning from nature, the hands-on exhibit shows new strategies and building technologies aimed at strengthening and restoring natural cycles. Guests can browse scale models to see the environmental impact of human architecture and daily activities over time, as well as build their own home model with sustainable features from the exhibit. museumofdesign.org
February 13 Based on the New York Times bestselling book and hit Steven Spielberg film, Catch Me If You Can premieres at the Atlanta Lyric Theatre this month. The musical tells the true story of Frank Abangale, Jr., a young con artist who passed himself off as a Pan Am pilot, an Atlanta doctor and a New Orleans-area lawyer. The musical, which has been the recipient of four Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards, will be showing through March 1. atlantalyric.com
February 20-21 Art Papers presents their 16th annual Art Auction, a two-night event raising money for Art Papers’ programs and mission. Held on the Westside at Bobo Intriguing Objects, the Art Auction & Party features more than 200 works from emerging and established artists, musical entertainment, a photo booth and complimentary bites by Atlanta chefs. The weekend kicks off the night before with the private Collector’s Preview, where guests can preview the works up for Auction and meet the exhibiting artists. artpapers.org
February 21 Celebrating excellence in traditional and classic design, the ninth annual Shutze Awards will be held February 21 at the Piedmont Driving Club. Named after revered classicist and Atlanta architect Philip Trammell Shutze, the seated dinner and awards ceremony is hosted by the Southeast chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art. In addition to the design awards, this year’s ceremony will honor Veranda magazine’s founding editor Lisa Newsom with a Lifetime Achievement Award. classicist-se.org
February 25-27 Interior designers, new media innovators and bloggers are joining forces as Atlanta hosts the Design Blogger’s Conference for the second year in a row. Held at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead, the conference is designed specifically for bloggers interested in new media and interior design.
