July 4 Kick off Independence Day at the 2015 Peachtree Road Race, the world’s largest 10K. The annual race, hosted by the Atlanta Track Club, began in 1970 and now attracts more than 150,000 attendees and 60,000 participants per year. Spectators are invited to watch the race while enjoying local dining and shopping hotspots in the area. July 7 Gregg Irby Gallery welcomes Southern abstract artist Page Jones Davis for a solo show at its new gallery space on the Westside. Garnering inspiration from modern marketplace aesthetics, Davis’s work alludes to the importance of human contact in a society that is becoming more communicative but less connected. July 11 Westside Provisions District plays host to a series of pop-up shops featuring some of the South’s finest handcrafted, small-batch brands. First up in the series are Atlanta-based companies Brick + Mortar, Andover Trask and Honeycomb Studio. The shops will launch on July 11 with a kick-off party from 7–9:30 p.m. featuring craft beer from Monday Night Brewing, cocktails from Project Sip and light bites from JCT. Kitchen. July 13 Celebrate summer the Southern way with South City Kitchen Midtown’s limited-time Pappy Van Winkle bourbon flights. Starting July 13, guests can learn the history of this rare bourbon brand, allocated only once a year in Atlanta, while enjoying three 1-ounce flights of the 15, 20 and 23-year varieties. Through July 18 Hosting her first exhibition in three years, nationally acclaimed artist and gallery owner Susie Pryor invites guests to attend her solo show, on view at Pryor Fine Art through July 18. Through July 25 Marcia Wood Gallery Midtown presents Shawne Major’s Surface Tension, a mixed-media exhibition showcasing Major’s acclaimed assemblages of found objects. Using rich visual compositions that are monumental yet intricately detailed, Major’s works convey a struggle with chaos and are hailed for their commanding emotional and physical impact.
