Installing new ebony hardwood floors and lightening the walls and ceiling created a neutral palette in the Buckhead condo. “Each piece is in its own way like a piece of art,” says designer Nina Nash. Chrome was on a longtime client’s wish list for his new condo at The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Buckhead. The request allowed Nina Nash of Mathews Furniture + Design to step out of her comfort zone while following her design mantra: “Be yourself. If you do what you love, it shows, and others will take notice.”

Nash, who has degrees in graphic design and fine art, is known for infusing a love of the arts and fashion into her clean, comfortable interiors. She describes her signature style as “a neutral base layered with gorgeous, unique textiles and special accessories,” adding, “It’s funny because I could also use that same sentence to describe the way I dress.” Wall and ceiling treatments accessorize her spaces, which, along with layers of art and books, keep the design from looking stark.

To create sleek, masculine style for this high-rise condo, Nash and her partner, Don Easterling, also with Mathews Furniture + Design, lightened the existing heavy, brown interiors with a bit of shimmer and chrome. She and Easterling—who have worked together for a decade—selected furnishings that were distinctive but in a scale that did not detract from the high-rise experience, with its aerial views. “At night, when the lights from the city are twinkling below, it’s very soothing,” says Nash.

In the main room, her client’s collection of limited edition artwork served as the design inspiration. An existing support column, disguised by textured metallic wallpaper from Innovations, now displays one of 10 signed, numbered prints from the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s photography portfolio, while the pale, slightly iridescent silver color on the ceiling creates a “magical luminosity” throughout the day, Nash says.

In the entryway, the designers selected a graphic wallpaper by Harlequin to wow and welcome visitors into the transformed condo. “It really sets the tone from the minute you walk in the door,” Nash says.
