Coastal Affair

Cape Town, South Africa, hits Alpharetta with Justin Anthony’s new breezy beach-style restaurant THE CAPE RESTAURANT & BEACH BAR

It’s easy to mistake The Cape Restaurant & Beach Bar, the latest endeavor from restaurateur and owner of True Story Brands Justin Anthony, for a bustling beachside restaurant on the shores of Cape Town. The scent of spices synonymous with South African cuisine immediately greets you upon entry, and a seaside aesthetic adds chic coastal flair.

Located in the previous Biltong Bar space at Avalon in Alpharetta, The Cape serves as a refresh to what was originally offered there. Global flavors are found in a selection of entrees and shareable plates such as the ostrich sliders, pan-seared halibut with red butter curry sauce and the bobotie crepes—a savory twist on the traditional pancake featuring ground beef curry, apples and raisins. A crowd favorite, the fried whole red snapper is served alongside both a sweet cilantro coconut sauce and a flavor-filled peri-peri sauce.

To match the vibrant flavors, Anthony’s wife, celebrated Atlanta designer Kelly Wolf Anthony of Wolf Design Group, infused a sophisticated palette of navy, white and tobacco with tons of texture to reflect the beachy spirit of Cape Town. Hanging botanicals, custom hand-painted surfboards and woven baskets from Africa further enhance the restaurant’s laid-back charm, while a heated rooftop patio allows for year-round outdoor dining.

“We wanted to bring the vibrant energy and beautiful flavors of Cape Town to Alpharetta, as many of our customers had asked us to for years after dining at our Buckhead sister restaurants Yebo Beach Haus, 10 Degrees South and Biltong Bar,” says Anthony. “Our unique twist on South African cuisine and the restaurant’s chic and colorful design allows us to provide guests with the perfect beach escape right in the heart of Avalon.”
