Hint of Glamour
Emerging trends in kitchen, bath and outdoor design were on display at the 2018 Luxury Living Show at Phipps Plaza. Here, AH&L takes a closer look
Presented by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles at Phipps Plaza in February, the 2018 Luxury Living Show highlighted the latest game-changers and must-haves in kitchen, bath and outdoor categories. From LED-illuminated kitchen drawers and backlit vanity mirrors to cleverly concealed storage solutions and hardwearing (but glam) surfaces, there was no shortage of inspiring details and stylish statements, thanks to the talents of Kingdom Woodworks, Studio Entourage, Glazer Design & Construction, Dove Studio and Floralis Garden Design.
Classic Chic
Kingdom Woodworks’ Marcel Olariu had New York-meets-Southern glamour in mind for the Luxury Living Show kitchen, outfitting the display with brushed brass accents, balanced proportions and high-gloss paint colors that were custom blended by Kingdom Woodworks. “I wanted to kind of bring it back South, specifically with the light color finish on the kitchen perimeter and then the two-tone where the island is a darker gray color,” says Olariu.
“I tried to create a space where everything is balanced, left and right. All of that was very carefully calculated and meticulously designed.” —Marcel Olariu
Functional Details
Among the kitchen’s clever storage solutions are a hidden pantry and a walnut platform pullout, which was installed below the Wolf coffee maker as a landing spot for multiple (or hot), mugs. Kingdom Woodworks outfitted all of the drawers wih LED lighting and the cabinetry with walnut interiors, which contrast with the exterior’s soft white finish and the white Cambria countertops. “There’s that play of contrast between colors that works really well. Those are the kind of things I constantly like to play with and combine different tones of color,” says Olariu.
Perfect Proportions
Freezer drawers below the steam oven are seamless with the rest of the cabinetry for a look that’s symmetrical and balanced. Detailed proportion was a main focus for Olariu when designing the cabinetry, particularly the custom design on the glass doors and the olive-knuckle brass hinges. “I have an architectural degree, so for me proportion, size, aesthetic is extremely important,” he says.
“The hope was to create a space that would make the discerning in-town client feel surrounded by quality touches and sophistication while having the textures and tones feel incredibly relaxing.” —Jane Hollman
Sophisticated Sleek
Along with Randy Glazer of Glazer Design & Construction, designer Jane Hollman of Studio Entourage combined modern sophistication with earthy touches to create a spa-like bath display. LED-backlit vanity mirrors were used in place of sconces, and inky waterfall countertops from Compac offer the look of marble but are actually made from durable quartz. Complementary ebony oak cabinetry by Mast Custom Cabinetry showcases custom, geometric hardware in a polished nickel finish, which was designed in partnership with Wilde Hardware. A faux-fur vanity stool adds contemporary glamour.
In the Details
A walk-in shower display at the Luxury Living Show feels ultraspacious thanks to steel-framed glass windows from Atlanta Glass & Mirror. Additional luxurious touches include multiple showerheads and a pair of marble waterfall benches. The shower walls are made from slabs of off-white, pearlized Neolith, creating an airy effect that contrasts with the moodier scheme of the rest of the bath.
Leisurely Luxe
A rectangular tub from MTI boasts a glossy, custom finish and rests in front of a gas fireplace for a relaxing retreat that’s both cozy and sleek. The fireplace surround was composed of solid Neolith panels in a concrete finish. “It really makes a statement by having a large-format material with custom designed seams,” says Hollman. The chandelier is by Hinkley Lighting.
Outdoor Oasis
In the outdoor kitchen display, Dove Studio elevated the outdoor cooking experience with durable Neolith countertops, NatureKast cabinetry and top-of-the-line Hestan appliances. A Blaze aluminum kamado and a Kudu outdoor grill provide additional options for outdoor cookouts, while a galley sink ensures easy meal prep and cleanup. Landscaping by Floralis Garden Design includes dark Hartstone floors and artificial turf, which were installed by Maxwell Gardens. Container plantings add additional life to the area.
