South Revival
The revitalization of South Downtown is marked by development at long-vacant 222 Mitchell with Class A office space, retail, restaurant and entertainment amenities. The 333,000-square-foot project is the first in the U.S. for Newport RE, which recently announced with partner Slater Hospitality that a rooftop modern diner and cocktail lounge will open in summer 2023.
“We feel like South Downtown is just so essential for Atlanta because it’s part of our urban core and some of the most historic buildings we still have as a city,” says APRIL STAMMEL, Newport’s senior vice president of marketing and leasing.
Across the street, Newport has turned historic Hotel Row into street-level retail, entertainment and restaurants; those announced include Pizza Clementine, cocktail bar Thirteenth Floor and Pins Mechanical Company, a game bar. Stammel says Newport plans to create ground-up residential and adaptive reuse projects on Broad Street as well.
