The Nest: Happy Thanksgiving (From Our Rental House)

By Meg Harrington

With one little birdie already out of the nest and another birdie not to far from flying away, we’ve decided it’s time to downsize.  After years of living large (and admittedly loving it), we’ve made the decision to go small, smart and stylish.

The Cast:
Meg and Scott: the homeowners
Molly and Lily: college and high school-aged daughters
Linda MacArthur: the architect
Michael Ladisic: the builder
(…and a delightful cast of characters who make it all happen with sledgehammers, wheelbarrows, screwdrivers, sheetrock and shovels.)

Update: While we continue to wait (and wait and wait) on the permit gods to smile upon us, our framers have been busy little bees building the porch.  We are porch lovers, so this is exciting:

Framing has begun on the porch!

Taking shape…

The porch is square which I love…and has a gorgeous view to the backyard.  I can’t wait to relax on it next Thanksgiving—along with a crackling fire and a toasty little throw.

We’ve also finalized plumbing and appliances in anxious anticipation for that happy day when we get the go-ahead to start working again. Stay tuned. I promise it will happen soon!

In the meantime, I’m dreaming of cottage-y Thanksgivings…and wish you and yours a safe and happy one.

This door is so sweet.

Holiday décor: organic, pretty and not too perfect.

How fun to have Thanksgiving outside at a table like this.

Simple.

More stylish outside dining. (Maybe I need a farm.)
