2024 EDGE AWARD EXHIBITION

to see you around here in the solitude

Opening Reception: Thursday, March 28, 6 - 9 pm

Artist Talk: Saturday, april 20, 3 pm

The Swan Coach House Gallery is pleased to present to see you around here in the solitude, the 2024 Edge Award exhibition featuring winner, Aineki Traverso.

“to see you around here in the solitude is an exhibition of recent works that delves into the idea of lacunae.

Lacuna is a term used to label a gap, a missing part, or an unfilled space, most commonly in manuscripts. In a broader context, it also represents an absence in memory, experience, or understanding of personal and/or cultural narratives.

Drawing upon inherited materials such as family photographs, letters, memoirs, and digital documents, I use the rhetoric of painting to investigate extremes, banalities, emotions, losses, and curiosities. I both mourn and celebrate ancestors of the past, occurrences in the present, and events yet to come, blurring the lines between subjective reality, memory, and dreamscape.

Edge Award Finalists Andrew Lyman, Natrice Miller, Yoon Nam, and Ellex Swavoni will also present a work as part of the award exhibition.

The Edge Award is a juried prize given annually by the Forward Arts Foundation (FAF) since 2000. The panel awards an early-career or under-recognized artist in the greater Atlanta area with a $10,000 cash prize, two-week Hambidge Center residency, and solo exhibition at the Swan Coach House Gallery. The voting panel is composed of an independent panel of Atlanta-area artists, educators, and administrators.

The exhibition is sponsored by Betty and Bob Edge.
