May Madness: 5 Things We Love this Month
1. Awards Season
Honoring the best in the design, the 2015 ASID-Georgia Design Excellence Awards Gala was held at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre this month. We were excited that so many of the designers recognized also have had their award-winning work featured on the pages of AH&L. Those recognized with these coveted industry prizes included Joel Kelly Design (Kitchen and Best in Show), Brian Watford (Residence over 3,500 square feet) and Melanie Turner Interiors (Model Home; Show House; Residence Under 3500 Square Feet), to name a few!

2. Awards Season: Part Deux
ADAC and Veranda magazine revealed the winners of its annual Southeast Designers & Architect of the Year Awards, which recognizes prominent designers and architects who exemplify outstanding talent in their fields. Interior designer Beth Webb won Southeast Residential Designer of the Year (AH&L, among others, went crazy for Webb’s Lake Chatuge project, as well as the dining room of our Home for the Holidays Showhouse), while Rita Carson Guest was named Contract Designer of the Year and Dennis Hertlein and Jim Chate of Surber Barber Choate + Hertlein Architects took home Southeast Architect of the Year. Congrats to both the winners and nominees!
3. Soleil Sensation
The Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House & Gardens is one of our favorite springtime traditions, and this year’s 14,000 square-foot estate, Chateau Soleil, did not disappoint. Inspiring spaces from the likes of Melanie Turner, Robert Brown, Patricia McLean, Michel Boyd, Vern Yip and Parker Kennedy Living (pictured) will be featured in our September 2015 issue; for those who cannot wait, take a virtual tour of the home.
4. Antebellum Charm
The AH&L editorial team headed south to Madison, Georgia, earlier earlier this month for the Madison in May Spring Tour of Homes & Gardens, where Jimmy Stanton and Patrick Greco’s antebellum home, Honeymoon, made its big debut. Stanton’s fresh-meets-traditional abode was featured in our May issue. The event also featured six additional historic homes, and visitors had the chance to visit the 1895 graded school building that now houses the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, historic churches and more.
5. Ones to Watch
One of our favorite features of the year is the unveiling of our annual 15 Under 40 class. The 2015 rising talents are changing the landscape of design through game-changing technology, philanthropic initiatives and innovative products. Find the full 15 Under 40 feature in our June 2015 issue.
