Hidden Jewel
Renowned British designer Tom Dixon makes his U.S. design debut at Himitsu, Umi’s new, Tokyo-style Japanese cocktail bar. With an exclusive and reservation-only guest policy, an immaculate beverage program spearheaded by creative director Shingo Gokan and a menu by Umi’s Fuyuhiko and Lisa Ito, it’s only fitting that the windowless interiors (with banquettes by Bjork Studio and art by Todd Murphy) are the ultimate in moody opulence. Quality Assurance
Since its launch in October at the hotly anticipated Westside Ironworks development, designer Bradley Odom’s Dixon Rye showroom has staked its claim as the nucleus of the West Midtown design district. Odom, an award-winning SCAD graduate and ASID designer, has classified his store with a pared-down approach, following the mantra “buy better, fewer things.” Sprawling 4,800 square feet, the space features industrial elements such as an original crane system, exposed beams and soaring ceilings, which provide the perfect backdrop for merchandise that includes pieces by artisans, craftsmen and designers, as well as custom upholstery designs by Odom himself and finds from Sabin, Astier de Villatte and Jefferson Hayman. dixonrye.com
French Connection
Renowned interior designer Suzanne Kasler and leading kitchen-and-bath expert Matthew Quinn, both Atlanta-based, lend their signature style stamp to third-generation, hand-crafted French range manufacturer La Cornue. The collaboration, revealed in January at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), showcased distinctive new color palettes inspired by Kasler’s and Quinn’s unerring eyes and unique purviews. Star Provisions
Anne Quatrano’s Star Provisions has bolstered its already impressive selection of fresh, gourmet fare with the addition of a breakfast menu, available all day beginning at 8 a.m. The market-meets-food-counter has also doubled its indoor seating space, which now accommodates nearly 50 hungry guests. The new menu includes favorites such as frittatas, croissants, bagels, savory tarts, sausage biscuits and egg sandwiches.
“I just think a fried egg sandwich is the bomb,” says chef Anne Quatrano. “We’re kind of just playing on things that we like.” There’s more mouthwatering additions to come, though (think waffles, yogurt with fresh fruit, additional pastries and reinterpreted breakfast favorites) “This is just our starting point,” says Quatrano, who is experimenting with new dishes to add. “It’s going to expand for sure.” starprovisions.com
