Garden Party

President of Sister Parish Design SUSAN CRATER, in partnership with Amanda Lindroth, hosts a celebratory evening for the Atlanta design community in the garden of Ann Mashburn’s personal home

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles: What an exciting evening it is celebrating the city’s designers and design tastemakers. How did you decide to host this event in Atlanta?

Susan Crater: Atlanta is one of our favorite cities with a vibrant and creative design community. We are also represented at Travis and Company, one of our cherished partners over the years.

AH&L: Can you share your inspiration behind your tabletop design and how you came to partner with Amanda Lindroth and Ann Mashburn?

SC: Two incredible creatives we admire! We always try to inspire a hospitable moment that conveys charm, whimsy and of course, color.

AH&L: Sister Parish is known for their dedication to utilizing local craftsmen. How did you implement local Atlanta businesses into this garden party?

SC: We recently collaborated on envelope liners with Brent of Atlanta’s Dear Elouise, so she was our natural choice to work with on this event. She designed the event invitations as well as the menus and conversation cards for the tables. Instead of traditional place cards for guests, we used conversation cards and asked guests to sit in a seat where they felt most comfortable answering the questions. This is a fun way for guests to open up and and create an engaging conversation at each table!

Mary Delia Designs at Lucy’s Market provided the florals for the event and Boxwoods Gardens & Gifts provided greenery and potted plants for the backyard space

Dennis Dean catered the event handsome Sid Mashburn store employees served as bartenders during the cocktail hour. Ann Mashburn was kind enough to open her personal home to host the event.

AH&L: Creating a perfectly layered tablescape is an art of its own. If you could choose one final element to take a tabletop from pretty to exceptional, what would it be and why?

SC: Gather objects you love from your home and place strategically. Can be anything you love from porcelain animals to wicker baskets to favorite bibelots

AH&L: Entertaining during this time of year can be especially chaotic. What’s your best-kept secret on hosting a successful dinner party?

SC: Relax and enjoy it!

AH&L: Anything that our readers can look forward to from Sister Parish, Amanda Lindroth or Ann Mashburn in the upcoming season?

SC:  Sister parish and Ann Mashburn both have new store openings in Connecticut and New York City respectively and Amanda always has new product that is a go to for us.
