First Look: Rose & Rye

Housed in Midtown’s landmark building “The Castle,” Rose + Rye offers a female-forward, creative spin

Creativity comes first at Rose + Rye. “This is no ordinary building; therefore this should not be your ordinary dining experience,” says Jessica Schilling, general manager of the restaurant, which opened in Midtown’s historic Victorian mansion, “The Castle,” in late 2017.

Built in the early 1900s, the building itself, which spans three floors, has historically served as a retreat for local artists. Rose + Rye, Schilling says, plans to continue highlighting this sense of innovation. “We feel like this is a safe space to be creative, and that’s where the inspiration of taking classical dishes and reconceptualizing them came from,” she says. On the menu, expect seasonally driven plates that range from savory French toast with fondue foam to a bone-in pork chop served alongside a sweet potato hash cake.

The female-driven team—which includes Shilling, executive chef Lindsay Owens, pastry chef Charity Everett and sous chef Anu Adebara—is also making waves. “We saw an opportunity to fill a void in the Atlanta culinary community by creating a concept highlighting women leading in the kitchen and in the front of house,” says Schilling. “We are ever-evolving, and it’s a privilege to work in an environment where creativity is nurtured.”
