
Formerly of Atlanta and now based in Bristol, Virginia, Mary Caroline Mumpower—who trained under design superstars Bunny Williams and Richard Keith Langham—invigorated the living room with bold pops of color. Strategically used, the palette cohesively ties the space together.

Marcia Sherrill and Summer Loftin created a glamorous study by lacquering the walls in brilliant white and painting the trim blood orange, then echoing the bright color in fabrics from Jim Thompson and a rug from Moattar, Ltd. More than 600 design books from Antonio Raimo Gallery line the room’s shelves while a tulip-style chandelier from J Nelson rounds out the designers’ glamorous leitmotif.

Fashioned by Robert Spiotta and James Deadwyler, the dining room included antiques with amazing provenance, including a neoclassical sideboard from Althorp—the Spencer family estate—that once belonged to Princess Diana’s grandfather.

HammerSmith renovated the small kitchen by replacing a 1980s design with white, clean-lined cabinetry and a glass tile backsplash, simplicity being key to its design success.

Scalamandre grasscloth covers the walls of the powder room by Scott Reed; framed intaglios, fine etchings and a 19th-century Regency mirror.

Hand-painted cherry blossoms adorn the walls of the foyer designed by Laura Green, making an enchanting first impression on visitors to Inspiration House.








Last winter, the Cathedral Antiques Show & Tour of Homes marked its 40th anniversary with a new addition. Located within the Deanery on the grounds of the Cathedral of St. Philip, “Inspiration House” was a showcase of designer spaces that proved antiques could blend seamlessly into today’s lifestyles. From glamorous and colorful to subtle and simple, the rooms exhibited timeless style for a new generation of collectors.
